Neuer out of Viking trip with foot issue, Kompany hands Urbig start
Post
📰 Manuel Neuer misses the trip to Viking with a foot problem, and Jonas Urbig takes the gloves in the Champions League.
📌 Key points
🧤 Kompany confirmed Urbig will start against Viking.
🦶 Neuer felt something in his foot after the Augsburg game.
🚫 He missed training on both Sunday and Monday.
🩺 Kompany does not believe the problem is serious.
🇩🇪 Urbig plays his first club game since his Germany debut.
📝 What happened
🎙️ At his press conference on 12 October, Kompany said: "Manuel Neuer felt something in his foot and will not train today, so the answer is clear." He added: "I don't think it's anything bad, but he didn't train yesterday and today, so it doesn't make any sense to take risks."
⏱️ At Augsburg on 10 October, Neuer's loose touch straight from kick-off led to a goal after eight seconds, the fastest in Bundesliga history, and Bayern drew 2-2. The foot problem began after that game and got worse.
🌱 Kompany said Urbig had received the playing time the club wanted for his development, including a cup final and several Champions League games. "The fact he's now also played for Germany is a result of that development, and every minute is positive for his development," he said.
🇳🇴 Viking top Norway's Eliteserien and play on an artificial pitch. They have scored 38 and conceded 10 in 10 home league games this season.
📊 By the numbers
• Goal conceded after Neuer's error at Augsburg: 8 seconds
• Training sessions missed by Neuer: two in a row (Sun & Mon)
• Viking's 10 home league games: 38 scored, 10 conceded
👀 What to watch
🧤 Urbig's stage — His first club game since his Germany debut is a Champions League away night, and it could reopen the debate over Neuer's successor.
🌱 Artificial turf — Viking play on a synthetic pitch, with temperatures of 8-12°C expected. Unfamiliar conditions could test Bayern's passing tempo.
🔁 A reaction — Bayern stumbled with the 2-2 at Augsburg. An away win would get them back on track.
🔭 Why it matters
Neuer is in the final stretch of his career and Bayern are already planning for life after him. This is a chance for Urbig to show he is the heir, and a first sign of how long Neuer's foot issue will linger. The match in Stavanger is on Tuesday night, 13 October.
