Stuttgart, with five defeats in seven, head to Leverkusen

📰 Stuttgart, with five defeats in seven league games, travel to Leverkusen on 31 October. 📌 Key points 📉 Stuttgart have two wins and five defeats from seven league games (6 pts). 😳 They lost 3-2 at home to previously winless Gladbach on 23 October. 🎙️ Hoeneß called it a mental issue and said they were too sure of themselves. 🏆 In the Champions League they have seven points from three games. ✈️ Next up: Leverkusen away on 31 October. 📝 What happened ⚽ Ermedin Demirovic scored after five minutes, but Gladbach hit back through Joe Scally (38'), Shuto Machino (51') and Wael Mohya (66'). Demirovic's second on 83 minutes came too late. 😳 Gladbach had lost all six league games before this one, so Stuttgart handed Alexander Blessin's side their first win. 📊 Stuttgart had 70% possession but lower xG (1.55) than Gladbach (2.60). 🎙️ Hoeneß said: 'We made six changes. Freshness shouldn't have been an issue today. It's more of a mental issue. Being a little too sure of yourself, not keeping the opponent down, but allowing them to get back up.' He added that Gladbach covered 128 kilometres, 'significantly more than us'. 📊 By the numbers • League: W2 L5 from seven games, 6 points • v Gladbach: 70% possession, xG 1.55 v 2.60 • Gladbach distance covered: 128km • Champions League: 7 points from 3 games (incl. 1-1 v Atlético) 👀 What to watch 🧠 Mentality — Hoeneß himself flagged complacency. How focused his side are away at a strong opponent is the first test. 🎯 Demirovic — scorer of both goals against Gladbach, can he find a way past Leverkusen? 🛡️ Protecting a lead — Stuttgart must stop the pattern of scoring first and then wobbling. 🔭 Why it matters Stuttgart are holding their own in Europe, but six points from seven league games leaves them adrift of the top places early on. Saturday's trip to Leverkusen could set the mood for Hoeneß's side.
