Anfield banner says fans "cheated" as Kop sings City "going down"
Post
๐ฐ City won 3-0, but the stands at Anfield spent the afternoon delivering their own verdict on the ruling.
๐ Key points
๐ชง Liverpool fans displayed a banner about "a generation of supporters cheated".
๐ถ Before kick-off the Kop taunted City about their last major trophy coming in 1976.
๐ At the end they chanted "going down" at the league leaders.
๐ก๏ธ City fans replied with an "In Khaldoon we trust" banner and inflatable bananas.
๐๏ธ Maresca said City's answer is to win games like this.
๐ What happened
๐ชง According to Sky Sports' Adam Bate, Liverpool fans used an altered version of Oasis's Wonderwall on a banner claiming City had "robbed us all". Another banner in the Sir Kenny Dalglish Stand suggested City's successes, and by extension those of their rivals, were built on lies.
๐ถ The Kop's opening song mocked City's last major trophy, the 1976 League Cup. The stadium PA also made a point: Calvin Harris's 'Blame' before kick-off and Fleetwood Mac's 'Little Lies' after the final whistle.
๐ City were booed on arrival and departure, and accusations of cheating were a feature of the afternoon. Late on, the Kop chanted "going down" at the side top of the table.
๐ก๏ธ City's travelling fans held up an "In Khaldoon we trust" banner, a reference to chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak. They booed the Premier League anthem and responded with the Poznan and inflatable bananas.

๐ญ Why it matters
Maresca said the noise "will be with us in all the away games" and that "our noise is to win games like today". Gary Neville, on commentary, said: "There is going to be a 'but' all the way." City have appealed and deny wrongdoing.
Anfield may be a preview of what City face on the road all season. They host PSG in the Champions League on 14 October.
