Juventus lose 2-0 at Genoa: CEO slams squad, Spalletti orders retreat
Post
📰 Juventus are in crisis after a 2-0 defeat at Genoa, followed by a dressing-down from the CEO and a two-day training retreat.
📌 Key points
⚽ Juventus lost 2-0 away at Genoa on 28 October.
📉 Three defeats in nine games leave them eighth on 14 points.
🗣️ CEO Giovanni Carnevali slammed the players the next morning.
🏨 Spalletti has ordered a two-day retreat from 30 October.
🔥 They host Napoli, level on points, on 1 November.
📝 What happened
🏟️ Juventus were beaten 2-0 at the Marassi. Kingsley Ehizibue converted Tommaso Baldanzi's cross at the back post after 12 minutes, and Baldanzi added a second before half-time after a poor Pierre Kalulu clearance. Juve had 63% of the ball, but their best chance was a stoppage-time Teun Koopmeiners free kick that came back off the underside of the bar.
🩹 Juventus were without several players, including Kenan Yildiz, Manuel Locatelli and Khephren Thuram. It was their second defeat in three league games.
🗣️ According to Sky Sport and Gazzetta dello Sport, Carnevali gathered the squad at the training ground on the morning of 29 October and delivered a harsh speech. Spalletti ordered a two-day retreat from Friday 30 October, backed by the club, with the players training at the Continassa and sleeping at the club hotel.
📰 Gazzetta wrote that it would be wrong to say anyone is playing against the coach, but many are playing without enthusiasm. Elkann remains on good terms with Spalletti, but results must sustain that trust. Stefano Pioli, Paulo Sousa and Antonio Conte have been mentioned, though there have been no formal talks.
📊 By the numbers
• 14 points from nine games, eighth (three defeats)
• 11 points behind leaders Inter and Lazio
• 63% possession, still beaten 2-0
🔭 Why it matters
Fabrizio Romano reports that Juventus have kept faith in Spalletti and are not considering a change. But Sunday's game against Napoli at the Allianz Stadium on 1 November is a meeting of two sides on 14 points, and another defeat would only increase the pressure on the coach.
