Sarri: I've dismantled Atalanta's old style, no more excuses

📰 Maurizio Sarri says there are no more excuses as Atalanta try to end a three-game losing run. 📌 Key points 🗣️ Sarri says he has dismantled Atalanta's old way of playing. ⏱️ He admitted "time is no longer an excuse". 📉 Atalanta won their first two games, then lost three, and sit 11th. ⚽ They have scored only five league goals in five games. 🇪🇺 Sarri insists the squad is good enough to fight for Europe. 📝 What happened 🗣️ Speaking to Corriere di Bergamo on 7 October, Sarri said: "At Atalanta I found players used to achieving great results in a certain way, and I've deconstructed that way of playing." He added that time is no longer an excuse and that things will feel more natural the more they play. 😄 Asked about Charles De Ketelaere wanting to play centre-forward, he joked: "Maybe I'll lock him in a room with Scamacca and Krstovic, and whoever comes out alive can play centre-forward!" He then said he was joking, would talk to the Belgian about another role, and could not abandon Scamacca and Krstovic. 🧠 On Gaetano in the playmaker role, he urged patience, saying it was too early to say he was not Atalanta standard: "Not even Jorginho was Jorginho after 20 games." 🇪🇺 On the objectives, he said: "For now we're in no man's land, but I remain sure ours is a competitive squad, one worthy of fighting for Europe. But so far we haven't shown we deserve it." 📊 By the numbers • League record: two wins, three defeats, six points • Position: 11th • League goals: five 🔭 Why it matters Sarri is asking Atalanta to play almost the opposite way to their recent past, and the experiment is under scrutiny. After the break they host Venezia in Serie A Week 6, then face Pafos in the Champions League. Another defeat would turn up the pressure.
