Fulham blow lead late at Ipswich as Arbeloa stays winless in six
Post
๐ฐ Fulham were ahead until the 88th minute but lost 2-1 at Ipswich, leaving Alvaro Arbeloa still waiting for a first league win.
๐ Key points
โฝ Ryan Sessegnon put Fulham ahead with a 25-yard strike on 55 minutes.
โฑ๏ธ Ipswich turned it round through Ouattara (88) and an O'Shea header in stoppage time.
๐ Fulham stay bottom of the Premier League on two points from six games.
๐ฏ Gonzalo Garcia and Oscar Bobb missed big chances at 1-0.
๐ฃ๏ธ Arbeloa: "The most important thing is Fulham's position."
๐ What happened
โฝ Fulham controlled much of the game at Portman Road, and on 55 minutes Ryan Sessegnon collected a clearance and rifled it into the bottom corner from 25 yards. Goal says Basey, Iwobi, King and Bobb drove Fulham's play.
๐ฏ They had chances to finish it. Gonzalo Garcia and Oscar Bobb both spurned big opportunities, and Garcia's only league goal remains the one against Chelsea on the opening day. Ipswich hit back, with Emersonn striking the post.
โฑ๏ธ Abdoul Ouattara levelled with a long-range shot on 88 minutes, and in stoppage time Dara O'Shea headed in Jack Clarke's free-kick. Ipswich manager Gary O'Neil said his side looked fitter in the closing stages.
๐ฃ๏ธ Arbeloa said: "This is football. When you don't take your chances, your opponent will. It's another week. We must improve and we need points." Asked about his position, he said what matters most is Fulham's position.
๐ By the numbers
โข Fulham league record: six without a win, 2 points (bottom)
โข Goals conceded: 88 and 90+1 minutes
โข Ipswich: third win of the season, 9 points, ninth
โข Gap between Fulham and Ipswich: 7 points
๐ญ Why it matters
After three straight defeats to open the season, a 0-0 at Liverpool and a 1-1 with Manchester United seemed to have bought the former Real Madrid man some breathing space. Letting this one slip puts him back among the favourites for the first sacking of the season. Fulham host fellow promoted side Hull City on 17 October, a game Arbeloa himself called vital: "It's just six games, but it's true that we need points."
