Guardiola reportedly plans Etihad return for City's UCL clash with PSG
Post
📰 Pep Guardiola, who left Manchester City at the end of last season, reportedly plans to watch City's Champions League home game against PSG on 14 October from the Etihad stands.
📌 Key points
🏟️ British media report Guardiola plans to attend the PSG game on the 14th.
🗣️ He has reportedly told senior figures he wants to "be with his people".
📱 After the verdict he backed the club on social media, "more than ever".
🔵 It would be his first visit to the Etihad since stepping down.
⚖️ City have appealed against the 114-breach verdict; no sanction yet.
📝 What happened
🏟️ According to the Mirror and the Evening Standard, Guardiola intends to watch City's Champions League meeting with PSG at the Etihad on 14 October from the stands rather than the touchline. Neither the club nor Guardiola's camp has officially confirmed it.
🗣️ The Evening Standard reports that Guardiola told senior club officials he wanted to "be with his people" during a difficult period. He left City at the end of the 2025-26 season after a decade in charge and is currently on a sabbatical in Barcelona. Enzo Maresca succeeded him.
📱 Guardiola broke his silence on social media after the ruling, telling City fans around the world he was with them more than ever, backing the owner, the chairman, the players and Maresca, and saying they would get through it together.
⚖️ An independent commission upheld 114 of the 115 Premier League financial charges against City, covering 2009 to 2018. City lodged an appeal on the evening of 1 October, arguing the ruling contains material errors of law, principle and fact. According to CBS Sports, league rules require an appeal hearing within 12 weeks, so it is expected before early January 2027.
📊 By the numbers
• Breaches upheld: 114 of 115 (2009-2018)
• Guardiola's tenure: 10 years, 20 trophies
• PSG game: 14 October, Etihad Stadium
• Appeal hearing: within 12 weeks of lodging
🔭 Why it matters
Guardiola is the defining figure of City's golden era, and his presence in the stands while the club await a sanction would be a powerful show of support for players and fans. The period under investigation overlaps with the start of his tenure, although the Evening Standard notes there is no suggestion he was aware of any breaches.
City return to league action at Anfield against Liverpool on 11 October before hosting PSG on the 14th.
