Neville asks Sky to take him off Man City games until verdict is final
Post
๐ฐ Gary Neville has asked Sky to take him off Manchester City games after co-commentating on their 3-0 win at Anfield.
๐ Key points
๐๏ธ Neville wants off City games until the verdicts are settled.
๐๏ธ Anfield was the first City game he had covered since the verdict.
โ๏ธ He says a huge cloud now hangs over the whole league.
โ Carragher asked 'Do these games even matter?' and urged a quick resolution.
๐ค Both insisted players and staff are not to blame.
๐ What happened
๐๏ธ Neville co-commentated on Liverpool v Manchester City for Sky Sports on Sunday, calling it the first City game he had done since the guilty verdicts. According to Brit Brief, he repeated on air what he had said on his podcast: 'If you could take me off Manchester City games moving forward for the next few months until the verdicts have been heard, I would be absolutely delighted.'
๐ค He still rated the performance. Pulse Sports reported him saying that winning at Anfield is really difficult and 'we should be eulogising over them without a but', yet 'there is that thing in the back of your mind'. If the guilty verdict is confirmed in January or February, he said, 'there is going to be a huge cloud hanging over the whole league', adding: 'This is really bad for the Premier League and it's going to continue for a few months.'
โ Carragher went further in a Sky Sports clip, asking 'Do these games even matter?' and warning that feeling towards City will only grow unless the case is resolved quickly. He also suggested the people in the directors' box, rather than the players, should be facing the criticism.
๐ค Neville described the players and staff as 'blameless in all of this'. There has been no word on whether Sky will grant his request.

๐ญ Why it matters
When one of Britain's best-known pundits does not want to cover the league leaders, it shows how much the delay is eating into the league's credibility. City will keep chasing the title while the appeal runs.
City's next match is PSG at home in the Champions League on 14 October.
