Génésio fumes as Marseille nearly blow 4-0 lead; Abdallah sent down
Post
📰 Marseille blew most of a 4-0 lead against bottom side Le Havre before winning 4-3, and Bruno Génésio turned his anger on his young substitutes.
📌 Key points
😱 Marseille were 4-0 up after 55 minutes but finished 4-3.
⏱️ Le Havre scored three times between the 77th and 89th minutes.
😡 Génésio said publicly that he was "very angry".
⬇️ 20-year-old winger Keyliane Abdallah was sent down to the reserves.
📈 Marseille are eighth on 12 points.
📝 What happened
⚽ At the Vélodrome on 25 October, CJ Egan-Riley put Marseille ahead after five minutes. Timothy Weah (33'), Igor Paixão (50') and Himad Abdelli (55') followed to make it 4-0.
😱 Josh Maja then scored a 77th-minute penalty, Mouhamed Lamine Ndiaye added another in the 86th and Maja struck again in the 89th. Marseille just held on for the three points.
😡 Speaking to Ligue 1+, Génésio said his side had played "75 minutes at a very high level" but that he was "very angry". He warned that if people around the young players "make them believe too many good things, I'll deal with them", adding that "humility is the most important thing in football".
⬇️ According to La Provence, Abdallah, whose attitude late in the game was criticised, will train and play with the reserves until further notice. Foot01, citing La Minute OM, reported that Tadjidine Mmadi has also been sent down and that 20-year-old defender Alexi Koum will follow. The club has made no official announcement.
📊 By the numbers
• 4-0 to 4-3 (Le Havre goals on 77, 86 and 89 minutes)
• Marseille 12 points, eighth / Le Havre 2 points, bottom
• Abdelli: 3 league goals in 8 games
🔭 Why it matters
Génésio, who faced talk of the sack earlier this season, is now cracking down on attitude rather than results. Marseille host Toulouse next on Sunday 1 November.
