๐ What happened
๐๏ธ At his pre-match press conference on 13 October, Luis Enrique was asked about City's guilty verdict for breaching Premier League financial rules. "The first thing when you hear that, it's a surprise, but I think we need to respect the process and wait for the final decision," he said.
๐ He went on: "If I speak only about football and the things that I saw on the pitch, Man City deserve those trophies," adding: "I hope they can avoid that sanction." According to French Football Weekly, he also said there is a lot of noise around big clubs and it is City's turn, and that trophies won on the pitch stay on the pitch.
๐ฅ Daniel Riolo of RMC's After Foot called the remarks "truly scandalous" and said Luis Enrique should only talk about football, because when he talks about anything else it is catastrophic.
โ๏ธ The Premier League said City used "sham" commercial contracts as part of schemes to inflate revenue and understate costs by more than ยฃ900m. City deny wrongdoing and have appealed; possible punishments range from fines and a points deduction to relegation and being stripped of titles.
