Bentancur banned for three games after Shaw headbutt red card

📰 Bentancur's headbutt on Luke Shaw will cost him three games: Coventry, Chelsea and Crystal Palace. 📌 Key points 🟥 Bentancur serves a three-match ban for violent conduct. 📅 He misses Coventry on 19 October, then Chelsea and Crystal Palace. 🧑‍⚖️ Former refs chief Keith Hackett backed the red card. 🔁 Shaw, who pushed him first, was only booked. 🤐 Spurs are not expected to appeal for fear of a longer ban. 📝 What happened ⚽ Bentancur came on for Lucas Bergvall at Old Trafford on 10 October and was sent off around 12 minutes later. After a series of tough duels, Shaw pushed him to the ground and Bentancur got up and headbutted him on the nose. Ten-man Spurs then drew 1-1 through Dominic Solanke's stoppage-time header. 🧑‍⚖️ Hackett said: "Referee Stuart Attwell and Video Assistant Referee Jarred Gillett handled this confrontation extremely well." Sky Sports' Ref Watch also heard the counter-argument that Shaw's push was more dangerous. 📋 A violent conduct red brings a three-match ban, and the FA can add a game if an appeal is judged to have no realistic prospect of success, so Spurs are likely to accept it. 💋 Roberto De Zerbi said after the game that he had "kissed" Bentancur in the dressing room. 📊 By the numbers • Ban: three domestic matches • Time on the pitch before the red: about 12 minutes • Spurs in the league: six games without a win 🔭 Why it matters Still chasing a first league win, Spurs lose a midfielder for games against in-form Coventry and a London derby with Chelsea. Spurs host Coventry on Monday 19 October.
