Sky: Dortmund plan no new deal for cup hero Sabitzer, 32

📰 According to Sky Sport, Dortmund currently have no plans to extend the contract of cup match-winner Marcel Sabitzer. 📌 Key points 📝 Sabitzer's Dortmund contract expires at the end of the season. 📺 Sky reported on 29 October that no extension is currently planned. 🎯 He scored a 93rd-minute free-kick winner against Bremen on 27 October. 🌱 The club are shifting towards young players with resale value. 🇦🇹 The 32-year-old has 102 caps for Austria. 📝 What happened 🎯 With the DFB Cup second-round tie against Werder Bremen level at 2-2, Sabitzer curled in a stoppage-time free kick to secure a 3-2 win and a place in the last 16. Two days later, a report emerged on his future. 📺 Sky Sport said on 29 October that Dortmund are not currently planning to extend his deal, which runs out at the end of the season. Sabitzer joined in summer 2023 and has made 128 competitive appearances for the club. 🌱 Sky noted that despite strong displays and his experience, he never became an undisputed key player. Internally, the club are moving towards young players who can develop and grow in value, and given his age and role, Sabitzer only partly fits that profile. ⚽ The Bremen winner showed he can still decide games, but Sky added that it does not appear to have changed the club's long-term plans. 📊 By the numbers • Age: 32 • Dortmund appearances: 128 (joined summer 2023) • Austria caps: 102 • Contract: expires at the end of the season 🔭 Why it matters If nothing changes, Sabitzer could leave on a free next summer. It is also a sign that Dortmund are speeding up a shift towards younger players. First up is Der Klassiker away at Bayern Munich on Saturday 31 October.
