Dortmund blow 2-0 lead as ex-striker Füllkrug heads late equaliser
Post
📰 Dortmund let a win slip in the final four minutes, and the man who finished them off was their former striker Niclas Füllkrug.
📌 Key points
⚽ Goals from Svensson (80) and Schlotterbeck (85) put Dortmund 2-0 up.
😱 Bremen hit back through Reis (88) and a Füllkrug header (90+2).
🛑 The draw ended Dortmund's perfect start of four league wins.
🐺 Füllkrug scored against his former club for the first time in his career.
🔁 The sides meet again in the DFB-Pokal second round.
📝 What happened
⚽ Matchday 5 at Signal Iduna Park on 9 October was goalless at half-time. Daniel Svensson opened the scoring in the 80th minute, and Nico Schlotterbeck headed in Joey Veerman's corner five minutes later for 2-0.
😱 Ludovit Reis pulled one back in the 88th minute, and in the second minute of stoppage time Füllkrug headed in Marco Grüll's free-kick. According to official Bundesliga data, Reis's goal came from a chance with just a 3% scoring probability.
🗣️ Niko Kovač told Sportschau: "We dominated the opponent for 88 minutes. You can't let a game like that slip out of your hands."
🐺 Füllkrug, on loan from West Ham, reached a Champions League final with Dortmund. "It felt a little like a Champions League night, like the ones I had with BVB," he said, adding: "Scoring against BVB doesn't matter to me. What matters is that we took a point." Bremen goalkeeper Karl Hein made seven saves and was voted player of the match by fans.
📊 By the numbers
• Goals conceded: 88th and 90+2 minutes (two in four minutes)
• Hein's saves: 7 (player of the match with 42% of the fan vote)
• Füllkrug: goals in four games in a row, his first against Dortmund
• Bremen: unbeaten in four games
🔭 Why it matters
Dortmund stay top and unbeaten, but their first dropped points came from a late home collapse. If Bayern win at Augsburg on 10 October, the title race gets tighter. The two sides also have a quick rematch in the DFB-Pokal second round.
