Ekitike's Achilles recovery reportedly on track for December return
Post
๐ฐ Hugo Ekitike has started jogging again after his Achilles rupture and is targeting a return to training in November and to action in December, according to L'Equipe.
๐ Key points
๐ฉน Ekitike ruptured his right Achilles against PSG in April.
๐บ๐ธ A US specialist recently said his recovery was on schedule.
๐ He has now reached the light jogging stage on the pitch.
๐๏ธ November training and a December comeback are the targets.
โ ๏ธ Liverpool have not confirmed any official return date.
๐ What happened
๐ฉน Ekitike ruptured his right Achilles tendon in the Champions League quarter-final against Paris Saint-Germain on 14 April. The injury ended his season early and ruled him out of the 2026 World Cup.
๐ฅ According to L'Equipe, he continued his rehabilitation at Clairefontaine, France's national training centre, in September before returning to Merseyside. He recently travelled to the United States to see a specialist, who said he was progressing on schedule.
๐ He has now begun light jogging. L'Equipe reported that he hopes to rejoin team training in November and play again in December, but stressed that Achilles recoveries depend heavily on how the body responds, so these are targets rather than fixed dates.
โฝ Liverpool are not overflowing with attacking options either. CaughtOffside noted that Cody Gakpo was recently injured on duty with the Netherlands, so an Ekitike return would be a welcome boost during the busy winter schedule.
๐ By the numbers
โข Date of injury: 14 April 2026 (Champions League quarter-final v PSG)
โข Last season, all competitions: 17 goals in 45 games
โข Last season, Premier League: 11 goals, the club's top scorer
โข Age: 24
๐ญ Why it matters
Ekitike was Liverpool's top league scorer in his first season at the club. A December return would give them far more options up front during a year-end run that mixes the league, the Champions League and the cups.
Liverpool resume after the break against Manchester City at Anfield on 11 October. Ekitike's next milestone is whether he rejoins team training in November.
