Kerkez put on Ukrainian 'enemies' list as Hungary minister condemns it
Post
📰 Liverpool's Milos Kerkez has been placed on an unofficial Ukrainian 'enemies' list, and Hungary's foreign minister has stepped in to condemn it.
📌 Key points
📋 Kerkez and his father were added to the Myrotvorets list.
🎵 It began when his father posted a clip of a scuffle set to Russian rap.
🏛️ Foreign minister Anita Orbán strongly condemned the listing and threats.
🇷🇸 He was criticised for watching a match in Serbia while suspended.
🔴 Liverpool host Manchester City at Anfield on the 11th.
📝 What happened
⚔️ Late in Hungary's Nations League match against Ukraine on 25 September, Kerkez clashed with Ukraine winger Viktor Tsyhankov. His father later posted footage of the incident on social media, set to a Russian rap song.
📋 The Ukrainian website Myrotvorets treated this as support for Russia's aggression and added father and son to its so-called 'enemies of Ukraine' list. Fidesz MP Balázs Hidvéghi was also added.
🏛️ Hungarian foreign minister Anita Orbán wrote on social media that she strongly condemned the stigmatisation, the listing and any possible threats against Hungarian citizens Kerkez and Hidvéghi. She stressed the site is not an official Ukrainian state channel and said talks were under way with the Ukrainian government, the Hungarian FA and the embassy.
🇷🇸 Kerkez was suspended for the return match against Ukraine after picking up too many bookings. The Hungarian FA let him leave the camp, but he went to watch a lower-league game between sides from his home region of Vrbas in Serbia, drawing fierce criticism and threats from Hungarian fans.
📊 By the numbers
• The match in question: Hungary v Ukraine, Nations League, 25 September
• Kerkez's Hungary caps: 35 (Fotbollskanalen)
• Liverpool's next game: Manchester City at Anfield, 11 October
🔭 Why it matters
An on-pitch scuffle has turned into a diplomatic row. The question now is whether Kerkez can put it aside as he returns to club duty.
Liverpool host leaders Manchester City on 11 October, then travel to LASK in the Champions League on the 14th.
