Haaland-Bayern talk played down as Kane reportedly agrees deal to 2029
Post
📰 After the Manchester City ruling, talk of Haaland moving to Munich spread, but a German journalist shut it down, saying "there is no room right now". Reports then followed that Kane had agreed in principle to a new Bayern contract.
📌 Key points
⚖️ Haaland transfer rumours spread after the ruling on City's financial rules case.
🗣️ Bild's Christian Falk denied that Bayern were pursuing Haaland.
💰 A salary of around €35 million does not fit Bayern's wage structure.
✍️ According to Sky, Kane has agreed in principle to extend until 2029.
🔁 Bayern's frontline will be built around Kane for the foreseeable future.
📝 What happened
⚖️ After Manchester City received an unfavourable ruling in the Premier League financial rules case, speculation grew over the future of their star striker Erling Haaland. One of the stories was that Bayern Munich were monitoring the situation.
🗣️ Christian Falk, head of football at Germany's Bild, effectively denied this on 2 October. According to him, Bayern rate Haaland highly like other European clubs, but they are very happy with Harry Kane, so there is no room for Haaland either on the pitch or on the wage bill.
💰 Falk noted that Haaland is reported to earn around €35 million a year, and that even if he became a free agent, demands for a huge signing-on bonus and salary would be far removed from how Bayern usually operate.
✍️ As Falk predicted, talks on Kane's side moved quickly. According to a Sky report relayed by FC Bayern Inside, Kane and Bayern had, as of 5 October, agreed in principle to extend his contract until 2029, with only a few details left before signing. The exact signing date has not yet been announced. No concrete negotiations involving Haaland have been reported.
📊 By the numbers
• Haaland's salary: around €35 million (Bild's Falk)
• Kane's current contract: until 2027 → agreed in principle to extend until 2029 (Sky)
• Kane's age: 33
🔭 Why it matters
Until the severity of City's sanctions and the outcome of any appeal are settled, transfer rumours around Haaland are likely to keep coming. But with Bayern, the club touted as his destination, set to stay with Kane until 2029, the chances of Haaland moving to Munich have fallen further.
