Gnabry leaves Germany camp early as Klopp insists it is not injury
Post
📰 Bayern forward Gnabry left the Germany camp early for load management ahead of the trip to Greece.
📌 Key points
🧢 Gnabry was the only player to feature in all three games of this window.
⚽ He captained the side against Serbia (2-0 win) and played only the first half.
🩹 Klopp explained it was load management, not an injury.
🔁 Elversberg's Felix Keidel has been called up as his replacement.
🏟️ Germany travelled to Thessaloniki with a 23-man squad.
📝 What happened
🧢 Serge Gnabry started and wore the captain's armband in the Nations League match against Serbia on 1 October, which Germany won 2-0. Klopp took him off at half-time, praising his performance while explaining it was a load-management decision. Gnabry then left the national-team camp early on the afternoon of the 2nd.
🗣️ According to Sky Sport Germany, the national-team set-up said they would travel with 23 players, noting that Gnabry had been the only player to appear in all three games of the window. His place was taken by Elversberg's Felix Keidel. Sportschau described Keidel as a player who can cover defence, midfield and both flanks.
🧢 Gnabry was vice-captain behind Joshua Kimmich. With him gone, Florian Wirtz, on 47 caps, became the most-capped player in the squad, and Wirtz wore the armband in the second half against Serbia.
🏟️ Germany drew 0-0 with Greece at the Toumba Stadium in Thessaloniki on the 4th, failing to avenge their earlier 1-0 defeat to Greece.
📊 By the numbers
• Result v Serbia: Germany won 2-0
• Gnabry's appearances this window: 3 games (the only player to play in every game)
• Squad for the Greece trip: 23 players
• Result in Greece: 0-0 draw
🔭 Why it matters
Bayern get to preserve the fitness of a key attacker ahead of the league restart. Klopp has been rotating and assessing players during this window, so balancing minutes between club and country looks set to remain a talking point.
