Son forces red card but LAFC draw 1-1 as coach discusses his mindset
Post
📰 Back at LAFC after Korea's rift row, Son Heung-min drew a red card for the opposition — but his side still only drew 1-1.
📌 Key points
🟥 A Vancouver defender was sent off after six minutes following Son's pass.
⚖️ LAFC played against ten men for almost the whole game and drew 1-1.
🗣️ Interim coach Xavi Tamarit said he discussed players' mental state on their return.
📉 LAFC are now four league games without a win (two draws, two defeats).
🧠 It was Son's first game since reports that three team-mates questioned his captaincy.
📝 What happened
⚽ LAFC drew 1-1 with Vancouver Whitecaps in MLS at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles (11 October, Korean time). Son played the full match as the attacking midfielder in a 4-2-3-1.
🟥 In the sixth minute Son's pass from the centre circle sent Jacob Shaffelburg through, and Vancouver defender Tristan Blackmon brought him down and was shown a straight red card. Ali Ahmed still put Vancouver ahead in the 43rd minute, before Denis Bouanga headed LAFC level just after half-time. Another Bouanga header in the 53rd minute was ruled out for offside.
🎯 Son's free kick and 27th-minute shot were both saved, and he finished without a goal or assist.
🧠 According to Star News, Tamarit said "it always takes time to readjust to the club" after international duty, and that the staff had spoken to Son and the other returning players about their physical and mental condition. He still praised Son's performance.
📊 By the numbers
• Son's MLS season: 6 goals, 13 assists
• LAFC: 6th in the West, 42 points (W11 D9 L6)
• Leaders Vancouver: 51 points
• LAFC's last four league games: two draws, two defeats
🔭 Why it matters
Son broke Korea's men's scoring record with his 59th goal in September–October, but returned to his club amid reports that Kim Min-jae, Hwang In-beom and Hwang Hee-chan were unhappy with his leadership. LAFC, who sacked Marc Dos Santos, are still waiting for a first win under Tamarit. A goal would help both Son and his club.
