Moreno: 'No excuses, we must get results' before Uzbekistan finale
Post
๐ฐ Robert Moreno has promised to let results do the talking against Uzbekistan, with no excuses.
๐ Key points
๐๏ธ Moreno refused to blame the short preparation time.
๐๏ธ Korea host Uzbekistan at the Yongin Mireu Stadium at 8pm local time on 6 October.
๐ Moreno's side have won one, drawn one and lost one so far.
๐บ๐ฟ Uzbekistan beat Iran and Syria in their last two games under Fabio Cannavaro.
๐ Player representative Kim Tae-hyeon promised to repay the fans with a win.
๐ What happened
๐๏ธ Speaking at the Korea Football Park in Cheonan on 5 October, Moreno said: "There is no need for excuses. We have to bring results." On the short camp he added that time had been limited and conditions were not ideal, but he had no intention of making excuses.
๐ Moreno's tenure began with a 3-0 win over Ecuador, followed by a 1-4 defeat to Uruguay and a 0-0 draw with Venezuela. After the Venezuela game, Kim Min-jae and Hwang In-beom both spoke out about problems in the squad, and the mood has been heavy.
๐ Kim Tae-hyeon, who joined Moreno at the press conference, said: "We haven't shown the fans what they want to see. Tomorrow we will definitely win and finish well."
๐บ๐ฟ Moreno described Uzbekistan as a flexible side who switch between 4-4-2, 4-2-3-1 and 4-3-3, with strong pressing and counter-attacks.
๐ By the numbers
โข Moreno's record: W1 D1 L1 (3-0, 1-4, 0-0)
โข Head-to-head: 11 wins, 3 draws, 1 defeat and unbeaten for 32 years, according to the Seoul Economic Daily
โข FIFA ranking: Korea 32nd, Uzbekistan 59th, according to the Seoul Economic Daily
โข Uzbekistan scored seven goals in recent wins over Iran and Syria, according to Sports Mole
๐ What to watch
๐งฑ A defence without Kim Min-jae โ Kim has missed two straight days of team training and is likely to sit out. Kim Tae-hyeon and Lee Han-beom look set to start in the middle. After conceding four against Uruguay, can the back line hold firm?
โฝ Son's scoring record โ Son Heung-min is level on the national scoring record with 58 goals. One more and he holds it outright.
๐ฎ๐น Cannavaro's Uzbekistan โ Manchester City defender Abdukodir Khusanov anchors their back line, and seven goals in two games shows their threat going forward.
๐งญ Moreno's midterm report โ His interim spell runs until 27 November, after six friendlies. How he ends this four-game run could shape talk of a permanent appointment.
๐ญ Why it matters
This is Korea's final home international of the year. Halfway through his spell at W1 D1 L1, Moreno needs both a result and a convincing performance. Kick-off is at 8pm on 6 October, and the side then head into two away games in November to close out the interim period.
