Moreno flies to Europe to watch Lee Kang-in v Kim Min-jae in UCL
Post
📰 Moreno left for Europe on the day he named his November squad, to watch Lee Kang-in and Kim Min-jae go head to head in the Champions League.
📌 Key points
✈️ Moreno boarded a flight to Europe on the evening of 29 October.
🏟️ His first stop is Atlético Madrid v Bayern Munich on 4 November (KST).
🇰🇷 It is a chance to assess Lee Kang-in and Kim Min-jae in a single match.
🇵🇹 On 5 November he will watch Hwang In-beom's Porto against Napoli.
©️ He also confirmed again that Son Heung-min is the captain.
📝 What happened
🎤 Interim coach Robert Moreno named a 26-man squad for the November internationals at the Korea Football Park in Cheonan on 29 October. According to Star News, he flew to Spain that evening to check on his Europe-based players in person, while saying he did not want to put pressure on players or clubs.
⚔️ First up is Atlético Madrid v Bayern Munich on matchday four of the Champions League league phase, at the Metropolitano at 9pm local time on 3 November (5am on 4 November in Korea). It could be a 'Korean derby' between Atlético's Lee Kang-in and Bayern's Kim Min-jae.
🩹 Fitness is a question mark. Kim was substituted at half-time against Arsenal on 22 October, missed the trip to Freiburg on 26 October and stayed on the bench in the 6-1 DFB-Pokal win over Magdeburg on 29 October.
🇵🇹 Moreno will then head to Portugal to watch Hwang In-beom in Porto v Napoli on 5 November (KST).
📊 By the numbers
• 26 players in the November squad
• Saudi Arabia on 13 November, Qatar on 17 November (both in Doha)
• Atlético v Bayern kicks off at 5am KST on 4 November
👀 What to watch
🇰🇷 Will the derby happen? — If both start, the two pillars of Korea's side meet in front of their head coach.
🩹 Kim's return — Whether Kim, rested with groin and knee problems, is back in the starting line-up.
🤝 Meeting the '96 line' — Star News reports that the trip also includes meetings with the '96 line' players.
🔭 Why it matters
Moreno's contract runs until November, and the two games in Doha will decide whether it is extended. Having promised to settle the dressing-room row through 'dialogue', meeting his players face to face in Europe is the first step of this camp.
Korea face Saudi Arabia on 13 November and Qatar on 17 November.
