Inter and Milan unveil 71,500-seat Generali Stadium, build from 2028
Post
๐ฐ Inter and Milan have unveiled the design of their shared new home, the Generali Stadium.
๐ Key points
๐๏ธ The new San Siro will be called the Generali Stadium.
๐บ It will hold 71,500 and is designed by Norman Foster's team.
๐๏ธ Construction is due to start in 2028, with a first match targeted for 2031-32.
๐ถ The overall investment is reported at around โฌ2bn.
โ Inter fans protested outside against the demolition.
๐ What happened
๐ฐ The clubs presented the stadium at the Sforza Castle in Milan on 29 October. It is named after insurer Generali, which reportedly pays about โฌ26m a year over a 25-year deal. In European competition it will be known as Milano Stadium.
๐ It is designed by Foster+Partners, led by Lord Norman Foster, who worked on the new Wembley, and David Manica's MANICA. A concrete X-frame inspired by Milan's Duomo supports a double-curved roof, with two tiers forming a 360-degree bowl. The north Curva is for Inter fans and the south for Milan.
๐๏ธ The clubs bought the land, including the current San Siro, in November 2025 and got the final go-ahead after appeals against the sale were rejected. Building is due to start in 2028 with the first match in 2031-32, later than the previous plan of a 2027 start. They also want to host games at Euro 2032, co-hosted by Italy and Turkey.
โ The event did not go smoothly. Inter fans held a banner outside against the demolition of the Giuseppe Meazza. Milan had a shareholders' meeting at the same time and sent their chief revenue and chief brand officers instead of senior directors, while Inter were represented by president Beppe Marotta and figures from owners Oaktree.
