Sheikh Mansour puts £100m into City Football Group amid appeal
Post
📰 Sheikh Mansour has put another £100m into City Football Group as Manchester City appeal their guilty verdict.
📌 Key points
💷 Mansour has invested about £100m in CFG.
📈 His company bought every one of the new shares CFG issued.
⚖️ City are appealing after being found guilty on 114 charges.
🗣️ CEO Ferran Soriano calls it "a single false accusation".
🤐 Mansour has not spoken publicly about the charges.
📝 What happened
💷 According to Yahoo Sports (All Out Soccer), CFG raised about £100m (around $133.5m) by issuing 11,327,163 new shares. Mansour's Newton Investment and Development bought them all, slightly increasing his majority stake.
⚖️ Last month an independent commission found City guilty of 114 of the 115 Premier League charges. The club has appealed to a separate commission and maintains its innocence.
🗣️ In a message to staff, Soriano said the case rests on "a single false accusation": that the owners' personal money was secretly routed into the club through Abu Dhabi sponsors. He said City will argue the ruling contains "clear material errors of law, principle and fact".
🏛️ Soriano pointed to 2020, when City overturned a similar ruling at the Court of Arbitration for Sport, and said the club will seek compensation from anyone who tries to damage it.
📊 By the numbers
• New investment: about £100m
• New shares: 11,327,163
• Guilty verdict: 114 of 115 charges
• CFG value: just under £6bn (The Mirror)
🔭 Why it matters
With relegation talk in the air, the owner is signalling that he will back the club financially. Sanctions have not been set and the appeal will decide City's fate. On the pitch, the 2-1 defeat at Villa on 24 October left City level with Arsenal on 21 points.
