£73.7m Sesko out until January with shin injury, leaving Carrick short

📰 Benjamin Sesko is set to be sidelined until at least January with a shin injury. 📌 Key points 🦴 Sesko is expected to be out until at least January 2027. 🔁 It is the same area of the shin that troubled him last season. 📅 He has not played since the Brighton defeat on 16 September. 🏟️ He is set to miss trips to Liverpool and Arsenal and three Champions League games. 💸 United paid £73.7m for him in August 2025. 📝 What happened 🦴 BBC Sport reported on 28 October that Sesko faces an absence until at least January. Club sources say it is an impact injury rather than shin splints. Michael Carrick described it as "a similar area, but it's not the exact same thing again". 🔁 The shin problem flared up against Liverpool in May, ruling him out of United's final three league games last season, and cost him the whole of pre-season. He has not played since being substituted after 66 minutes of the Carabao Cup defeat by Brighton on 16 September. 🏟️ He is expected to miss the Premier League trips to Liverpool and Arsenal before the turn of the year, as well as Champions League games against Roma (home, 3 November), Sporting CP (away, 25 November) and RB Leipzig (home, 8 December). ⚽ His two goals this season came against Everton and Sabah FK. Last season he scored 11 Premier League goals despite missing eight matches, joint-top for United with Bryan Mbeumo. 📊 By the numbers • Fee: £73.7m (August 2025, from RB Leipzig) • Goals this season: two • Last season: 11 league goals (joint club top scorer) • United: eight games without a win, 16th in the table 🔭 Why it matters Carrick, who survived the axe this week, must now cope without his only recognised central striker during an eight-game winless run. It raises the question of whether United will sign a forward in January. United visit Chelsea on 31 October and host Roma on 3 November.
