Allegri's Napoli suffer worst start since 2015-16: seven points from 5

📰 Massimiliano Allegri's Napoli have taken just seven points from five league games, their worst start since 2015-16. 📌 Key points 📉 Napoli have won two, drawn one and lost two, for 7 points. 🗓️ It is their worst opening five games since 2015-16, when they had 6 points. ⚽ They lost their Champions League opener 1-0 at home to Arsenal. 🩹 McTominay, Buongiorno and Anguissa have all been sidelined. 🏟️ Next up after the break is high-flying Frosinone, who have 10 points. 📝 What happened 📉 Allegri, appointed this summer, has had a rough start. Napoli sit ninth after five Serie A games with 7 points. According to Football Italia, that is the club's worst start since 2015-16, Maurizio Sarri's first season, when they had 6. ⚽ Defeats to Como, Inter and Arsenal made it three losses in a row in all competitions. Against Arsenal at the Stadio Maradona, Martin Ødegaard scored the only goal on 75 minutes. Allegri said his side "played a good match against one of the strongest teams in Europe", but it did not change the result. 🤝 The run ended with a 1-1 draw at Fiorentina on 21 September, after which Allegri could not hide his frustration and said the team must improve a lot. 🩹 Injuries have not helped: Scott McTominay is recovering from a heart procedure, Alessandro Buongiorno hurt his knee in late July, and Frank Anguissa missed the Arsenal game through injury, and goalkeeper Alex Meret and Alisson Santos both picked up muscle problems during it. 📊 By the numbers • League record: W2 D1 L2, 7 points (9th) • Points at the same stage in 2015-16: 6 • Arsenal game: lost 0-1 (Ødegaard, 75') 🔭 Why it matters Some fans doubted the appointment from day one, given Allegri's struggles at AC Milan. Napoli's first game after the break is at home to Frosinone, who are unbeaten in four and three points better off. Another slip could bring serious questions about the manager, with a trip to Juventus to come on 1 November.
