Moyes: 'I hope it's not just Everton picked on' after City verdict
Post
๐ฐ Premier League managers spoke out on the Manchester City verdict ahead of the first league weekend since it was published.
๐ Key points
๐ Moyes said he hopes Everton are not the only club being 'picked on'.
๐ฅ Carrick, twice a runner-up to City, said the case affected him personally.
๐
Asked about retrospective medals, Carrick said he would answer 'later on'.
๐ค Former City coach Arteta will not comment until the appeal is resolved.
โ๏ธ Glasner warned that fans will stop watching if they lose trust in the league.
๐ What happened
๐ Moyes said it 'looks terrible' that Everton were docked points and fined not long ago while other matters from more than ten years ago have not been dealt with. 'I hope it is not just Everton that are being picked on,' he said, while admitting City raised the level of the league: 'We all had to park the bus, because they were that good.' Everton had points deducted twice in 2023-24 for financial breaches.
๐ฅ Carrick finished second to City as a United player in 2011-12 and 2017-18, both inside the 2009-2018 period covered by the case. 'I've got my own questions about it,' he said, 'it's affected me personally in different ways over a period of time.' On retrospective medals he said he would hold that one until later, as nothing is final, adding that a late medal does not bring the feeling of the moment.
๐ค Arteta, Pep Guardiola's assistant at City at the tail end of the period, said: 'It is very important that we respect the process,' and that he and the club would not comment until the appeal is resolved. Chelsea's Xabi Alonso urged patience until the final sanctions, while Liverpool's Andoni Iraola said 'uncertainty is not good for anyone'.
โ๏ธ Forest's Oliver Glasner said he wanted it to be quick and warned that fans who lose trust will stop watching. Sunderland's Rรฉgis Le Bris said football has rules on and off the pitch. According to Sports Mole, Tottenham's press officer blocked questions on the case.
๐ By the numbers
โข City found guilty on 114 of 115 charges (2009-10 to 2017-18)

๐ญ Why it matters
Any sanction could reshape the title race, relegation and Champions League places, which is why rival managers' words carry weight. City have appealed and maintain their innocence. City visit Liverpool on 11 October, United host Tottenham on 10 October and Everton go to Hull City on 11 October.
