Chelsea reportedly back in for Alex Scott after £64m bid was rejected
Post
📰 Reports say Chelsea are still pursuing Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott, but Bournemouth are said to have no intention of selling.
📌 Key points
💰 Chelsea had a £64m bid for Scott rejected in the summer.
🔁 UK outlets report that Chelsea still want to sign him.
🚫 Bournemouth intend to keep Scott in January too.
💷 There are claims it would take £100m-plus to open talks.
🧢 Scott played 70 minutes on his first England start against Croatia.
📝 What happened
💰 According to Sports Mole and other UK outlets, Chelsea offered £64m for the 23-year-old midfielder in the summer window, but Bournemouth turned it down. Bournemouth are reported to have made clear they would not welcome further bids either.
🔁 The Chelsea Chronicle noted that Chelsea need midfield reinforcements after sending Enzo Fernández to Manchester City on deadline day. Journalist Simon Phillips said that if Bournemouth were to sell Scott in January, it would have to be for an offer of more than £100m. However, this is only what some outlets are reporting, not an official club position.
🧢 Scott is in fine form, as if to justify his price tag. He has played in all five of Bournemouth's league games, scoring once, and leads the team with 2.2 key passes per game, according to The Chelsea Chronicle.
⚽ He is also growing in stature at international level. Having made his debut off the bench against Czechia, he made his first start in England's 7-0 win over Croatia and played 70 minutes.
📊 By the numbers
• Chelsea's summer bid: £64m (rejected)
• Reported valuation: £100m-plus
• This season: 1 goal in 5 league games, 2.2 key passes per game
• First England start: 70 minutes
🔭 Why it matters
Chelsea urgently need midfield reinforcements, but unless Bournemouth change their stance on keeping a key player, a January deal looks difficult. The fact his price has risen sharply since the summer is another obstacle. Outlets are mentioning Monaco's Lamine Camara as an alternative.
As luck would have it, Chelsea host Bournemouth in the league at Stamford Bridge on 10 October, meaning they come up against one of their transfer targets.
