Chelsea reportedly return for Koné as Roma raise asking price to €100m
Post
📰 Reports suggest Chelsea are reviving their move for Manu Koné after it collapsed on summer deadline day, but Roma are said to be asking for €100m.
📌 Key points
🔁 Chelsea are reported to be showing renewed interest in Roma midfielder Koné
🤝 Personal terms with the player are claimed to be all but agreed
💰 Roma's asking price is reportedly around €100m
🗓️ The timing, January or next summer, has not been decided
🗣️ Koné says he is 100% focused on Roma for now
📝 What happened
🔁 Chelsea Chronicle, citing journalist Simon Phillips' newsletter, reported that Chelsea are once again targeting Koné and have almost agreed personal terms. However, there is no confirmation of talks between the clubs, so for now it remains at the reporting stage.
⏰ Chelsea tried to sign Koné on summer deadline day, but the deal did not happen. RMC Sport's Fabrice Hawkins reported on 1 September that the two clubs had failed to reach an agreement and Koné would stay at Roma. At the time, Chelsea were looking for a replacement for Enzo Fernández.
🗣️ Roma sporting director Tony D'Amico said he was delighted Koné was staying as he is an important player, explaining that it is hard to let a key player go at the end of a window. Koné told Gazzetta that he was aware of what had happened, but that he is a Roma player now and will give everything to this team.
💰 According to Phillips, Roma, mindful of Chelsea's financial muscle, have raised their price to around €100m, roughly double the original figure. Whether a move would happen in January or the summer has not been decided.
📊 By the numbers
• Koné's age: 25
• Roma's reported asking price: around €100m
• Chelsea's first attempt failed: summer deadline day (reported 1 September)
🔭 Why it matters
Koné established himself at Roma after a spell at Borussia Mönchengladbach, and has played at a World Cup for France. Chelsea clearly want to strengthen in midfield, but €100m is a hefty sum and Roma's stance is that they have no intention of selling. Until the January window opens, it is a case of waiting for further reports.
