Besiktas boss blocks Oh Hyeon-gyu move as Spurs and Hull circle
Post
๐ฐ Oh Hyeon-gyu's January move to the Premier League has effectively been blocked by his Besiktas coach, according to Turkish reports.
๐ Key points
๐ซ Turkish outlets say Vincenzo Italiano has refused to approve a sale.
๐ฆ
Italiano sees Oh as a key striker alongside Dusan Vlahovic.
โช Tottenham reportedly planned to open talks with Besiktas during the break.
๐ฏ Newly promoted Hull City are also said to have been interested.
๐ Oh's Besiktas contract runs until June 2029.
๐ What happened
๐น๐ท Turkish outlets Fanatik and Takvim reported that Tottenham and Hull City were interested in Oh and planned to talk to the Besiktas hierarchy during the international break. But coach Vincenzo Italiano did not agree to a sale and passed that view on to the board.
๐ฃ๏ธ According to local reports cited by MyDaily, Italiano said Oh "is training very well and forms a perfect fit with Vlahovic in our system", adding that he "will remain a key player in my plans". With Besiktas competing on three fronts, he does not want to weaken his attack.
โฝ Oh left Genk for Besiktas in February for a โฌ14 million fee. This season he has one goal and two assists in 13 games in all competitions, and is still waiting for his first league goal.
๐ Hull are owned by Turkish TV figure Acun Ilicali, which added to the interest in Turkey. Tottenham have been linked with a new striker in January because of their lack of goals.
๐ By the numbers
โข Transfer fee: โฌ14 million (February 2026, Genk to Besiktas)
โข Contract runs until: June 2029
โข This season, all competitions: 13 games, 1 goal, 2 assists
โข Besiktas: 3rd in the Super Lig, 12 points (W4 L2)
๐ญ Why it matters
Oh's possible move to Spurs, once said to have Son Heung-min's backing, has hit a big obstacle in his own coach. These are Turkish reports only, with no official word from either club. A first league goal would only strengthen Italiano's faith โ and the Premier League's interest.
