Spurs plan restrained January after £300m+ summer spending spree

📰 According to Football Insider, Tottenham will keep their wallet largely closed in January after a huge summer outlay. 📌 Key points 💸 Spurs spent more than £300m on signings this summer. 🧾 There are no plans for another big-money window in January. ⚽ The priority is the attack, not the defence. 🔄 Players will need to be sold to fund a new striker. 🛡️ Despite links with Kim Min-jae, a centre-back is not a top priority. 📝 What happened 🗞️ Football Insider's Pete O'Rourke reported that Tottenham will take a "far more restrained" approach in January, focusing on value-for-money targets in specific areas rather than marquee signings. ⚽ The biggest concern is up front. Dominic Solanke and Omar Marmoush have yet to register a league goal or assist this season. Spurs want a striker who can hit the ground running, but are expected to need sales to fund it. 🛡️ After signing Jan Paul van Hecke and Marcos Senesi among others in the summer, Roberto De Zerbi is said to trust his current defenders. Richarlison, left out of the Premier League squad, is seen as surplus to requirements. 🏦 Chief executive Vinai Venkatesham also told ESPN that financial regulation is a genuine constraint. The club have not made a profit since 2019, while wages and transfer spending keep rising. 📊 By the numbers • Summer spending: more than £300m • New summer arrivals: 10 • Sales income: around £150m • League record: winless in five, bottom 🔭 Why it matters If big reinforcements are off the table, De Zerbi has to turn things around with the players he has. Football Insider adds that Dejan Kulusevski, returning from a long injury, could be offered new terms if he proves his fitness. The first test is the trip to Manchester United on 10 October.
