Mourinho reportedly set to bench out-of-form Vinicius v Villarreal

📰 A Spanish outlet has reported that Jose Mourinho could start Vinicius Junior on the bench against Villarreal on 10 October. 📌 Key points 🗞️ Defensa Central reported a possible bench role against Villarreal. 📉 A drop in his dribbling and attacking output was cited as the reason. 🔁 It is said to be a short reset, not a punishment or a sale signal. 🗓️ The real target is El Clasico away at Barcelona on 25 October. ⚠️ It is a single-outlet report, not a club announcement. 📝 What happened 🗞️ According to Defensa Central, as relayed by GOAL and Sports Illustrated, Mourinho planned to leave Vinicius out of his starting XI against Villarreal. The report pointed to a noticeable drop in his dribbling and involvement in the final third early in the season. 🔁 The outlet framed it not as a loss of faith but as a brief breather before El Clasico. SI added that it was not a prelude to a sale but an attempt to light a fire under the player. If the report is right, he would return to the starting line-up for the games against Roma, Sevilla and RB Leipzig. 🗣️ Vinicius has recently spoken about the after-effects of the World Cup exit. After converting a penalty he had won himself in Brazil's 4-2 friendly win over Australia in September, he said his team-mates knew he needed some confidence and that losing a World Cup was hard to accept, with the way back never easy. Regular taker Bruno Guimaraes handed him the spot-kick at Carlo Ancelotti's suggestion. ⚠️ As this is not an official club announcement, the actual line-up will only be known on matchday. 📊 By the numbers • Villarreal game: 10 October • El Clasico: 25 October • Brazil v Australia friendly: 4-2 win, Vinicius scored a penalty • Real Madrid this season: 1 goal in 8 competitive games (Flashscore) 🔭 Why it matters Vinicius is central to Real's attack, so even the idea of benching him is big news. Whether a short rest sparks a revival or dents his confidence further should become clear against Roma, Sevilla and Leipzig, with the ultimate test at El Clasico on 25 October.
