Dortmund CEO says new Kovač deal 'only a matter of time'
Post
📰 Dortmund are confident of extending the contract of Niko Kovač, the coach behind their perfect start.
📌 Key points
🗣️ CEO Carsten Cramer says a new deal is only a matter of time.
📅 Kovač's current contract expires at the end of 2026/27.
🏆 Dortmund have won all four league games and lead by two points.
📈 Kovač holds the club record for points in a coach's first 50 games.
⚽ Dortmund resume at home to Werder Bremen on 9 October.
📝 What happened
🗣️ Cramer said: "We have an incredible amount of esteem for Niko Kovač. It's only a matter of time, that's clear." He added that, with not everyone around during the international break, "there are still a couple of discussions to be had".
🔄 Kovač arrived in February 2025, replacing Nuri Şahin with the team struggling. He steered them into the Champions League places that season and to second behind Bayern last term.
🔥 This season Dortmund have won all four Bundesliga matches to sit two points clear. The 54-year-old has collected more points in his first 50 games than any previous Dortmund coach.
📊 By the numbers
• Four wins from four, two points clear at the top
• Contract ends June 2027 (end of 2026/27)
• Appointed February 2025, aged 54
🔭 Why it matters
Settling the coach's future early would strengthen Dortmund's hand during a title push. They open Matchday 5 against Werder Bremen on 9 October.
