City's O'Reilly leaves England camp injured, doubt for Liverpool trip
Post
📰 Man City left-back Nico O'Reilly has left the England squad early through injury and returned to his club.
📌 Key points
🩹 O'Reilly left the England camp mid-way through with an injury.
⚽ He was unable to train after playing the full game against Spain.
🏥 He will return to Man City for further detailed tests.
🗓️ Whether he will be available for the trip to Liverpool on the 11th remains unclear.
🔁 England have decided not to call up a replacement.
📝 What happened
⚽ O'Reilly started and played the full 90 minutes of the Nations League game against Spain at Wembley (a 2-3 defeat). He then missed training and was left out of the matchday squad for the 2-0 win over Czechia in Prague.
🩹 England said he was returning to his club for further tests. The location and extent of the injury were not disclosed, but ESPN reported that he had also suffered a back problem in early September.
🗣️ Tuchel had earlier described it as a "minor issue" and said they would try to get both Konsa and O'Reilly back, but in the end the decision was made to withdraw him.
📋 O'Reilly is the sixth player to drop out of this squad through injury. Palmer, Rice, Rashford, Mainoo and Livramento had already left the camp.
📊 By the numbers
• Minutes against Spain: 90 (England lost 2-3)
• Players lost to injury this camp: 6
• Competitive games this season: 6 games, 1 assist (Goal.com figures)
• Man City league points: 15, top of the table (per Goal.com)
🔭 Why it matters
O'Reilly is a key option on the left of Man City's defence. League leaders City face Liverpool at Anfield on 11 October, straight after the international break. Ahead of a big game that could shape the early-season picture, the make-up of the left side of their defence could change depending on the test results.
