📝 What happened
😶 In the match, played as a Hana Bank Invitational friendly, Korea struggled to create chances. Their first shot came from Cho Hyun-taek in the 45th minute. Venezuela dominated possession in the first half and pinned Korea back.
🧤 Goalkeeper Song Bum-keun dealt with the danger. Kim Seung-gyu had played in the previous two games, but Song started this one and made a string of key saves, including from a Ramírez header in the second half. Venezuela hit the woodwork once in the second half, and a Ramírez goal was ruled out for offside.
⚽ For Korea, Oh Hyeon-gyu had a second-half goal disallowed for a foul, and Son Heung-min's shot was saved by the goalkeeper. Son stayed on 58 international goals in this match, remaining joint top with former coach Cha Bum-kun.
✅ Four days later, against Uzbekistan in Yongin on 6 October, Korea bounced back. Son Heung-min scored a 6th-minute free-kick for his 59th goal to become the outright Korean men's international record scorer, and with Oh Se-hun's 60th-minute header Korea won 2-0.
📊 By the numbers
• Shots v Venezuela: 7–12 (Korea–Venezuela)
• Venezuela FIFA ranking: 47th
• Son Heung-min: 59 international goals (v Uzbekistan, outright Korean men's record)
• Moreno's four games: 3-0, 1-4, 0-0, 2-0
🔭 Why it matters
Struggling at home against a lower-ranked side raised questions about Korea's attacking solutions, but the win over Uzbekistan that followed meant the four-match run ended on a high. Moreno leads the team on an interim basis until November, and according to Financial News, whether he stays on through the Asian Cup will be finally assessed on the results of the November friendlies in the Middle East.
