Mourinho: I'll be 80 before the final verdict in Man City's case
Post
📰 José Mourinho has mocked the length of Manchester City's legal battle, joking he will be 80 when the final verdict arrives.
📌 Key points
🎙️ Mourinho was asked about City in an interview with Corriere dello Sport.
😄 "I prefer to laugh a little, because I think we will have an end."
⏳ He said that with a verdict and then an appeal, he would be 80.
⚖️ A commission found City guilty of all financial breaches over nine seasons.
📮 City deny wrongdoing and have lodged an appeal.
📝 What happened
🗣️ The Real Madrid coach told Italy's Corriere dello Sport that he would rather see the funny side. "I think we will reach an outcome, but being in our sixties we will need to be lucky to still be around when the final verdict arrives," he said.
⏳ "A verdict will come now, then there will be an appeal. And I'll be 80," he added, poking fun at a process with no clear end.
⚖️ An independent commission found City guilty of every charge of breaching financial rules between 2009-10 and 2017-18, plus three of four charges of failing to co-operate. City deny wrongdoing and have appealed; the appeal will be heard in private.
🏛️ In the same interview, Mourinho recalled his first spell at Madrid (2010-2013): "I arrived and lived here, at Real Madrid, the important times of Negreira."
📊 By the numbers
• Breach period: 2009-10 to 2017-18, nine seasons
• Three of four non-co-operation charges upheld
• City top the league with 15 points from five games
🔭 Why it matters
Any sanction depends on the appeal, and the timetable is still unclear. Mockery from one of Europe's best-known coaches adds to the pressure on City. They visit Liverpool on 11 October, while Mourinho's Madrid host Villarreal on 10 October.
