Man City's Centurions: first 100-point PL season, 106 goals in 2017-18
Post
๐ฐ In 2017-18 Manchester City became the first Premier League side to reach 100 points, earning the nickname "the Centurions".
๐ Key points
๐ City finished 2017-18 on 100 points, a Premier League first.
โฝ They won 32, drew 4 and lost 2, scoring 106 goals.
๐ They finished 19 points clear of runners-up Manchester United.
๐งข It came in Pep Guardiola's second season in charge.
๐ Liverpool (99 points) have come closest since.
๐ What happened
๐งข After a trophyless first season, Guardiola's City dominated from start to finish and wrapped up the title with five games to spare, equalling the earliest title clinch in Premier League history.
๐ The season produced a list of records: most points (100), most wins (32), most away wins (16), most goals (106), best goal difference (+79), most consecutive wins (18) and the biggest winning margin (19 points).
๐ City also beat Arsenal 3-0 in the League Cup final in February to complete a domestic double, and the side is widely rated among the best in Premier League history.
๐ The closest anyone has come since is Liverpool's 99 in 2019-20 and City's own 98 in 2018-19.
๐ By the numbers
โข 100 points (W32 D4 L2)
โข 106 scored, 27 conceded, +79
โข 19 points clear, 18 straight wins
โข Next best: Liverpool 99 (2019-20), Man City 98 (2018-19)
๐ญ Why it matters
Reaching 100 means barely dropping points all season. Whether anyone can do it again remains one of football's favourite debates.
