Man Utd held by 10-man Spurs: 6 points, fewest since 1986-87
Post
📰 In a meeting of two struggling sides dubbed 'El Sackicko', United failed to win despite playing against ten men.
📌 Key points
⚽ Mbeumo opened the scoring in the 73rd minute after a one-two with Cunha.
🟥 Five minutes later, Spurs' Bentancur was sent off for a headbutt motion towards Luke Shaw.
😱 Ten-man Spurs equalised through a Solanke header in the 92nd minute.
📉 United's six points from six are their fewest at this stage since 1986-87.
😠 Old Trafford booed at half-time and at full-time.
📝 What happened
🏟️ With both managers under pressure, the game was nicknamed 'El Sackicko'. Spurs were the better side for long spells: Solanke and Conor Gallagher wasted chances, and United were booed off at the break.
⚽ In the 73rd minute Mbeumo combined with Matheus Cunha and finished from a tight angle. Five minutes later Bentancur moved his head towards Shaw and was sent off, sparking a brawl between the two benches.
😱 United could not hold on. In the second minute of stoppage time, Solanke escaped Lisandro Martínez to head in Sandro Tonali's cross.
🎙️ Carrick said: "For a number of reasons, we were not quite there," adding: "It hurts a lot because I care about this club. But I understand the disappointment." On Sky Sports, Gary Neville said Spurs were "the better team by far", while Jamie Redknapp said United's squad "is not good or strong enough".
📊 By the numbers
• United's points after six games: 6 (fewest at this stage since 1986-87)
• United's position: 12th (third last season)
• Spurs: winless in their first six league games for only the fourth time in their history
🔭 Why it matters
After finishing third last season, United are on course for their worst start in 40 years. With reports that Carrick's position will be assessed during the November break, two points dropped against ten men only add to the pressure.
United's next league game is away at Leeds on 18 October.
