Spurs' Tel hits hat-trick to equal France Under-21 scoring record

📰 Tottenham's Mathys Tel has equalled France's Under-21 scoring record with a hat-trick against Switzerland. 📌 Key points ⚽ Tel's hat-trick powered France to a 7-1 win over Switzerland. 🏅 He now has 17 Under-21 goals, level with Odsonne Edouard's record. 🔥 He scored five times in four games during the break. 🇫🇷 France won all eight qualifiers to reach the 2027 Under-21 Euros. 🤔 He has yet to score for Tottenham this season. 📝 What happened ⚽ France Under-21s thrashed Switzerland 7-1 in Orleans in their final European Championship qualifier. Tel opened the scoring with a 10th-minute tap-in, added a second before half-time and completed his hat-trick with a curling effort from outside the box. 🏅 According to ESPN, the goals took him to 17 for the Under-21s, equalling the national record held by Odsonne Edouard. Yahoo Sports puts his tally at 17 goals in 22 appearances. 🗣️ Tel joked: "My brother had been nagging me about it for months. In the end it was in the back of my mind." 🔥 He also scored against Iceland and Luxembourg during the break, finishing with five goals in four games and 313 minutes. France completed qualifying with eight wins out of eight. 📊 By the numbers • v Switzerland: France won 7-1, Tel scored three • Under-21 career: 17 goals in 22 games (joint record) • This break: 5 goals in 4 games (313 minutes) • Tottenham this season: no goals yet 🔭 Why it matters His club form tells a different story. Tel has not scored for Tottenham this season, has fallen behind Omar Marmoush on the left and was left out of the squad for the defeat by Aston Villa. ESPN suggests his international form could put him in contention for Zinedine Zidane's senior squad in November. Bottom-of-the-table Spurs, still winless with two points from five games, visit Manchester United at Old Trafford on 10 October. The question is whether Tel can carry this form into Roberto De Zerbi's side.
